US transfer applications: transcripts, credits and recommendations
FREE TCO GUIDESA transfer application needs a reliable record of what you have studied. Keep admission documents, recommendation requirements and possible credit decisions separate so none gets lost in a general checklist.

Know which records are needed
MIT’s transfer guidance asks for secondary-school and college or university transcripts, two academic recommendations from college instructors, and a school official’s report. One recommendation should come from a mathematics or science instructor. Other universities may ask for different materials.
That example shows why a high-school record should not be discarded simply because you are now at university. Read each destination’s complete instructions before requesting documents, and note who must provide each item.
Make course content easy to understand
Imagine you completed a course called Mathematical Methods. The title alone does not explain whether you studied calculus, linear algebra or both, how deeply you studied them, or how your work was assessed.
For this illustrative case, assemble the syllabus, catalogue description, credit units, transcript and assessment information. Keep the original grading scale and follow the receiving university’s instructions on translations and reporting.
MIT’s registrar explains that departments have transfer-credit examiners and may award elective credit where there is no equivalent subject. Admission and the application of particular credits are therefore different questions. Do not describe a possible match as an approved one.
Ask people who have seen your work
Within each programme’s rules, choose recommenders who can discuss your academic work directly. A college instructor who observed your reasoning through a difficult assignment may offer more relevant detail than someone with an impressive title who barely knows you.
Share a factual reminder of the work, the destination’s instructions and the deadline. Track agreement, invitation and submission separately.
Finally, map completed courses against potential degree requirements, marking each match as unconfirmed until the university decides. This helps you ask about remaining study and cost without building your plan on assumed credit.
